Who can use MekongInfo’s Web hosting service?

Organisations and projects involved in NRM-related activities in Cambodia, Lao PDR, Thailand and Vietnam can make use of MekongInfo's Web hosting service. For instance, you could be a sector project, national or provincial organisation, research institute, non-governmental organisation, university or network. The focus of your work could be on upland resource management, forest management, community or social forestry, watershed management, land use planning, area development, ethnic minorities, research, etc.

What does this service cost?

The good news is that MekongInfo’s Web hosting service is free-of-charge for sector actors. All you need to do is provide the necessary information inputs.

What kinds of information should be presented?

You should decide on the specific contents of your Web pages. You could consider including:

An introduction to your organisation/project

• you could describe your goals, structure, etc. and include your logo.

An overview of your activities

• you could include information on the objectives, approach, methodology, geographical coverage, target group, partnerships, experiences, results, etc.

Your information products

• you could include relevant reports, publications, training guides, manuals, etc. produced by your organisation/project.

Contact details

• your mailing address, telephone, fax, e-mail, etc. and staff list.

What language can I use?

You can present your activities in Vietnamese, Khmer, Thai or English. In order to reach the widest audience, we would suggest that you use your national language (Vietnamese, Khmer, Thai) as well as English. However, we regret that we cannot provide a translation service.

How much information can I present?

You should decided how much information you want to present, bearing in mind that the contents of your pages should not exceed 2 MB in size.

How are the Web pages designed and produced?

The MekongInfo team is on hand to help you develop your site. You can either:

• Register with MekongInfo as a project or organisation and attach your Web pages (as html or Word documents) to the registration form under "Publication Information". If you register as an organisation, you should select the longer "resource organisation" form. Once your registration has been processed, the System Operator will add your pages to MekongInfo.
• Send the contents of your Web pages (in html or Word) to us by e-mail or on diskette. The System Operator will prepare a demonstration version of your pages, which will be sent to you for review. When we are in agreement regarding the contents and layout, your pages will be posted online.

How can I update the contents of my Web site?

You can update your pages in two ways:

• You can update and modify the information on your pages using your password and user ID obtained during registration. This password will enable only you to update your pages. You will not be able to change the contents of any other pages on MekongInfo.
• Or, you can simply send the System Operator any new materials to be added.

How will others find my Web pages?

Your Web pages will be presented in the "Hosted Sites" section of MekongInfo. Your URL (address of your pages on the Internet) will be personalised according to your needs. For instance, your URL could be: www.mekonginfo.org/partners/your-name/index.htm

Who has hosted Web pages on MekongInfo?

MekongInfo's community of partners is growing quickly. Several organisations and projects have Web pages on MekongInfo including the Asia Forest Network, the International Centre for Research in Agro-Forestry (Chiang Mai), the Working Group on Forest Land Allocation and Joint Forest Management in Dak Lak Province, Vietnam, and FAO and World Bank projects in Cambodia.
