Message from the Director

The Living Aquatic Resources Research Center (LARReC) is pleased to welcome you to it's home page. Established in 1999 under the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry and the National Agriculture and Forestry Research Institute (NAFRI), LARReC has been quick to promote itself as a leading institution for the region in the area of aquatic natural resource research. Working closely with our national and international partners it is the mission of the center to strengthen the capacity of its staff and researchers to a level comparable with regional and international research centers.

At present, main research activities are externally funded through collaborative projects such as the National Aquatic Resources Institute (NARI) project funded by DANIDA. This has enabled LARReC to develop the infrastructure of the center through the supply of library materials, laboratory and workshop construction, as well as funds for training workshops and post-graduate studies abroad.

The intent of the LARReC home page is to disseminate information regarding the center's activities to interested parties the world over. This home page is our invitation to everyone to have a look at the research activities currently underway at LARReC. Through our home page we aim to facilitate the exchange of information between our partners and other researchers.

We welcome your comments and suggestions regarding not only our home page but also the research agenda itself. Our involvement in the online community is a step towards the long term commitment of LARReC to contribute quality research outputs in the field of aquatic resource management.
