Data and Information Unit |
The LARReC Data and Information Unit is an operational information resource unit on the national and regional arena. It has established itself as a focal point for information concerning Mekong fisheries and related subjects. With a growing collection of research resources in both printed format and CD-Rom, the LARReC library is rapidly becoming a valuable multi-media center in the field of Natural Resource Management. The collection includes material in English, Lao, Thai and French language to ensure a wider audience understanding.
With funding from DANIDA and collaboration with LARReC's partners, the Data and Information Unit has established valuable links with other libraries in the field of Natural Resource Management. Specifically the LARReC Library works closely with members of the FAO library in Rome and the International Center for Living Aquatic Resources Management (ICLARM) in Malaysia.
In this manner the unit will work towards information dissemination
to target groups identified by LARReC as well as the production and distribution
of multi-media educational tools. Training courses are offered through the unit to keep
LARReC researchers up to date with current technologies in order to assist
them in their work and elevate the center to international research standards.
The mandate of the Data and information Unit is to:
1. Operate the LARReC information resources center as a national and regional focal point for information concerning Mekong fisheries and related subjects
2. Manage the LARReC databases for bibliographic, statistical and MRC project
3. Disseminate the Information to LARReC target groups and production of multi-media tools
4. Train on Multimedia production
5. Provide the GIS for aquatic resources research
