The Centre for Environment, Tourism and Development (CETD) was found in 1993 with the sponsor of the Vietnam Forestry Science and Technology Association (VIFA). The CETD is the acting organization of the Vietnam National Parks and Protected Areas Association (VNPPA)

WHAT ARE THE PURPOSES OF THE CETD?

  1. Environmental education and interpretation: CETD carries out environmental education for leaders and staff of National Parks (NPs) and Protected Areas (PAs), local communities, tourists and general public through its short training courses, workshops, conferences and public communication such as poster, books, document films, short films, etc.
  2. Ecotourism: CETD carries out research, survey on ecotourism potential of NPs and PAs. CETD also consultants on ecotourism development master plan and organises training courses on ecotourist guide training.
  3. Environmental research: CETD cooperates with National and International Government or Non Government Organisations to conducts research on natural resources management and environmental protection.
  4. Development Program: Designing and implementing development projects for local people in the buffer zone of the NPs and PAs.

WHAT ARE ACTIVITIES OF THE CETD?

Environmental Education and interpretation:

Sponsor for activities of the Conservation Education Network (CEN) which comes under the Vietnam Environmental Education and Training (VIETNET).

In cooperation with national and international institutes and centres to hold short training courses on natural resource management and environmental protection.

Organise training courses on Environmental Education and Ecotourism in Bach Ma, Tam Dao, Ba Vi National Parks.

Carry out public communication on environment and natural resource management through the radio, television, and the press.

Carry out community education to promote family planning and rural resource management.

Ecotourism and environmental research:

Carrying out survey on ecotourism in Tam Dao and Ba Vi National Parks. Based on that, master plans on ecotourism development in these areas were developed.

Consulting on ecotourism development planning.

Organising workshops, conferences on ecotourism.

Other research projects includes:

  • Conservation research: aiming at providing the basis for the conservation of diverse ecosystems; endangered, value and endemic species; designing management plan for NPs and PAs; linkages between biodiversity, cultural diversity to ecotourism development and conservation.
  • Agroforestry research mostly in bufferzones of NPs and PAs: aiming at restoring of degraded land by such means as agroforestry and mixed cultivation; preventing of environmental pollution due to agricultural chemicals; controlling of vector transmitting disease to human beings and livestock; and transferring appropriate agriculture technologies.

Development activities:

CETD develops and implements the buffer zone development project in order to conserve biodiversity and sustainable develop the buffer zone ecologies including human ecologies.

During its operation, the CETD has a close relationship and cooperation with prestigious international organisations based in Vietnam and worldwide such as the National Park Association of Japan, Japan International Cooperation Agency, Federation of Nature and National Parks of Europe; European Community; WWF Vietnam, IUCN Vietnam, U.S. National Park Service, The Center for Biodiversity and Conservation - American Museum of Natural History; the ASEAN Regional Center for Biodiversity and Conservation; the World Commission of Protected Areas of ASEAN (WCPA)...
