Two groups have been released into PMNR by the reserve authorities, resulting in a management problem which needs to be addressed in the near future.

Distribution data taken from Ruggeri & Timmins (1995-1996).

Distribution data taken from Lippold (1998).

This species was recently described in Russian with no English name given (see Sokolov et al. 1997).

These newly discovered species are not included in either the Red Data Book of Vietnam or The 1996 IUCN Red List of Threatened Animals. Using the same logic as Timmins et al. (1998) they probably should be classified as vulnerable.

Chrotogale is used instead of Hemigalus as named in Corbet & Hill (1992). Here the nomenclature follows that of Nowak (1999).

Hunters are known to classify Rhinoceros sondaicus as present within the reserve. No-one has reported seeing this species in the last five to ten years however, so the likelihood of it surviving in the reserve is small.

This species was thought to be extinct until its re-discovery in 1996 (see Groves et al. 1997) and as such it's status has not yet been corrected. Using the same logic as Timmins et al. (1998) it probably should be classified as vulnerable.

These newly discovered species are not included in either the Red Data Book of Vietnam or the 1996 IUCN Red List of Threatened Animals. However, they are in Wemmer et al. (1998). Timmins et al. (1998) suggested they should be classified as vulnerable.

Distribution data taken from Dung et al. (1993).

Local hunters only say there is one species of striped squirrel due to the difficulty of separating these species from characteristics observable in the field.

The presence of a striped rabbit species in Indochina was recently discussed by Surridge et al. (1999), but the species is not yet described.
