2.6 Gardens

In order to support subsitance production 72 % of the places visited had distributed small garden plots of about 8 are. No rent had to be paid for them nor did the farmer have to give part of the harvest to the kolkhoz. They were meant entirely for the production of food for family consumption. They are not registered and no formal contract is signed and they can be withdrawn by the kolkhoz at any time. The farmers knew this. So far this part of the presidential policy to improve living conditions in the rural areas especially for families with many children was supported by the local administration.
