5.4 Examples of Rural Land Consolidation

The concepts of rural land consolidation have been applied to these, following projects: (The above 30,231 Ha PIADP lands (Provincial Irrigated Agriculture Development Project) comprising 12 provinces, initiated in 1992 onto project year 1995/1996 (see list below), was the first gigantic IBRD (International Bank for Rural Development) funded, and land consolidation managed, inter-provincial project. List indicates a "shift out" of irrigated agriculture built-up toward the three biggest islands of Indonesia (excluding Irian Jaya).

A second big project with land consolidation management is the oil-palm NESS project of "PT. Perkebunan dan Pengolahan Sawit Minanga Organ" in South Sumatera. With a total size of 27,938 Ha it comprises 1.149 parcels, and involves 1,112 participants.

Another NESS land consolidation managed project is that of "PT. Perktetunan London Sumatera" in South Sulawesi. It has in project year 1995/1996 a total of 5,000 Ha with 2,500 parcels/participants.

(The above 2 and 3 projects are funded by company loan, re-imbursable in terms of crop harvesting).

Annex-2 features some eight province projects of rural land consolidation, funded by national and provincial budgets. It covers 2,187.63 Ha of land, involving 5,141 participants on 5,198 parcels, at 11 scattered locations.
