2.3.3 Responses

Responses indicators measure what society is doing to deal with land problems. Society may respond:

  • by reducing underlying or proximate pressures (for example by transmigration);
  • by improving the state of land use (for example by soil conservation);
  • or by taking action against impacts (for example by land consolidation).

Response indicators include measures of public opinion, changes in landuse policy, land allocation, enforcement of land use plans, incentives, protection, concept of consensus in land use planning and regulatory actions.
