National Land Agency BPN - Republic of Indonesia (1995):
International Workshop on the Implementation of Rural Land Consolidation

2. Introductory Address

by Willi Zimmermann on behalf of GTZ

His Excellency Mr. SONI HARSONO, State Minister for Agrarian Affairs / Head of National Land Agency (BPN)

Dr. NAD DARGA TALKURPUTRA

Deputy Head of National Land Agency and Chairman of the Steering Committee

Ladies and Gentlemen, Distinguished guests and participants,

Land consolidation has in Germany and in a number of other countries long been recognised as a most efficient tool to support the implementation of a modern national land policy. It has proven to be effective in specific situations in creating better conditions of a better life in the rural and urban environment and improve the sustainable use of the resources and the public facilities.

Therefore, it's a great pleasure for me to say a few words on behalf of the German Agency for Technical Co-operation (GTZ) on this opening ceremony of the "International Workshop on Rural Land Consolidation" jointly conducted by the National Land Agency (BPN) and GTZ.

First of all I would like to extend my warmest welcome to all participants from all over Indonesia and from abroad.

I also want to express my greatest appreciation to the officials concerned of the National Land Agency and all partner organisations of the Indonesian government. Our friends from BPN have made all efforts and appropriate arrangements for the organisation of this workshop. Thank you very much.

The partnerships between Indonesia and Germany and especially the close partnership between BPN and GTZ are very positive examples how international co-operation can work with organisations and with individuals, based on real commitment, understanding, good human relationships and open exchange of experience.
