10.2.4 Aims and significance of an integrated rural
development
Integrated rural development in Germany is pursuing the
following aims:
- Safeguarding the functionality of the entire rural area
- nation-wide land management,
- preserving a wide scattering of land ownership as an important
principle of democracy
- Slowing down the exodus of the (youth) population from
rural regions
- preventing the sprawling of urban agglomerations,
- producing a balance between urban and rural regions.
- Preserving a pastorally influenced cultural and
recreational landscape.
- living, dwelling, working and finding recreation in the
countryside as a way of life.
- Securing of ecologically intact biotopes
- conservation of water bodies, landscape, species and biotopes,
- recreational areas for people (resource tourism).
- Preservation of the social and cultural home (identity) of
the rural population
- That is a strategy, a development concept, a financing concept
- and at the same time a mental, ideological concept.
