In Vietnam the Protection and Conservation of Natural Resources is closely linked to the powerful economic development of the country. The increasing economic wealth is transformed to higher demand for environmental services such as recreation and other goods and services from the forests. While this demand promotes nature conservation, there is at the same time an increased pressure on natural resources particularly close to urban areas. GTZ has engaged in this subject with a holistic approach to assure that the protection and conservation of natural resources is integrated in the overall development process of Vietnam and creates income for rural poor living close to protected areas.
The objective of the GTZ MNR Sub-sector on Protection and Conversation of Natural Resources and Biodiversity is therefore to improve the management of natural resources in protected areas and adjacent buffer zones, to reduce the loss of biodiversity, and to enhance opportunities for better livelihoods in rural areas.
This will be achieved by addressing the following issues:
- Conservation of biodiversity
- Improved management of protected areas
- Reduction of environmental damages
- Environmental policies
- Financing mechanisms
- Payment fo environmental services
- Sustainable tourism
- Wetland management
There are currently 3 projects in the sub-sector:
- Tam Dao National Park Management
- Soc Trang Coastal Management
- Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park Management
