Overview of the Hydrology of the Mekong Basin

Overview of the Hydrology of the Mekong Basin

# Compiled by the MRC Water Utilisation Programme (WUP). Based on analysis of data observed between 1960 and 2004, ie including the most recent observations, with numerous tables and charts. Intended as an introduction to the hydrology of the Mekong River. Aims to provide basic insights into the hydrological regime of the Mekong river. Sections: Catchment Geography, Climate, Flows, Floods and Draughts, Floodplain and Delta, Hydrologial Modelling. . # Some main findings: There is little evidence from the last 45 years of data of any systematic changes in the hydrological regime of the Mekong. There is no evidence of any upward or downward shift in the average magnitude of the flow in the years from 1960 to 2004. There is no evidence of any systematic change in the low-flow hydrology, either in terms of a long-term increase or decrease in dry season discharge.
